WILMA JOHNSON

Wilma is the owner and founder of Shewana Shepherds. She has lived with German Shepherd Dogs since her early childhood and has bred them nearly her entire life. She delivered her first litter of puppies on her eleventh birthday and has been in love with breeding ever since. In 1968, after several years as a hobby breeder, she began to turn her hobby into a profession. She comes from a long line of German Shepherd lovers and has developed and protected her breeding program with a fierce loyalty to the old standard of what these dogs were meant to be – working/companions.
Having spent most of her life with Shepherds at her side, Wilma’s insight into the character of these noble dogs is remarkable. In 1993, she and her husband purchased the Windy Hill Farm for the express purpose of expanding her breeding efforts and the continuation of her research of the breed. She has developed a most remarkable staff of young women to care for the Shewana Shepherds that reside on the 40 acre farm.
Additionally, she has been instrumental in supporting and mentoring others who are interested in working with the breed. Wilma has had the very good fortune to have been associated with some of the most well respected Breeders in the country. Just as she was taught to appreciate the remarkable nature of these dogs by her Grandfather, she continues to teach others. The love of the German Shepherd Dog and its preservation is always at the forefront of her mind.

Cari has been an integral part of the Shewana team, since 1995. She has successfully trained German Shepherd Dogs since her childhood. She is competent in her knowledge of canine behavior and her talent to integrate youngsters with senior adult dogs is unsurpassed. Her natural ability to become a "member" of a canine pack allows her to safely handle several dogs at the same time (see picture above). Her dedication to the dogs in her care is limitless. They are her joy!

I would like to take this opportunity to give thanks and credit to my awesome family who have always supported my dream. Without their continued hard work, creativity and dedication to our comfortable home, the wonderful kennel facilities, and the beautiful outdoor amenities we all enjoy, my goal of becoming a successful dog breeder would have never come to pass.
They have been involved with me at every turn. No matter what was needed, they have been willing to sacrifice hours, days and weeks to do whatever it took to “get the job done”. Without their love and cooperation, not to mention talent and inspiration, none of this could have been achieved.
