THE SHEWANA SHEPHERD
Since its inception, Shewana Shepherds has had one goal in mind...to remain true to the German Shepherd Dog. Hence, our breeding stock represents some of the finest animals found in the United States, Canada and Europe. The dogs in our breeding program display all the required characteristics, which the founders worked so diligently to achieve. Intelligence, strength, beauty, loyalty, and agility are the highlights of our dogs. Primarily, our success is obtained through the selective, hand-picked breeding of appropriate sires and bitches. This is to ensure that each Shewana Shepherd carries forth the standards that the German Shepherd Dog is noted and loved for.

Shewana Shepherds has brought together some of the most recognized and accomplished breeding lines in the history of the German Shepherd breed. Such bloodlines and heritage have been selected to develop the most well-rounded example of what the breed can offer. In all, Shewana Shepherds has a lineage that respected in the most prominent of breeding circles.
THE SHEWANA PHILOSOPHY
BEAUTY IS NOTHING WITHOUT STABILITY
Shewana Shepherds has always recognized the physical beauty of the German Shepherd Dog. However, the stable mind of these noble creatures is what distinguishes the breed from all others. As a result, before each and every litter is bred, our staff asks..."What kind of German Shepherd will this breeding produce?" In doing so, the kennel has produced some of the most stable-minded dogs that exist. In fact, our dogs have been used by police departments, drug enforcement agencies, search and rescue teams, and those with physical disabilities to deliver the full capabilities this breed offers. We attribute this to our selective breeding practices and the knowledge we have of our own dogs.
SOCIALIZING OUR DOGS
Part of the key in developing a Shewana Shepherd is to understand the animals first. You see, the German Shepherd Dog is a social being, and this fact is enhanced and nurtured by our facilities and care. Personal attention is given to our pups from the day they take their first breath. Each of our pups is given close examination on a daily basis and are familiarized with the surroundings that each may find in their eventual homes. This may involve hearing vacuums, various voices, getting to know other dogs, a walk on one of our paths, or just "hanging out with our staff". The point is that we do all we can to provide our dogs the surroundings they may find with their new families before they have left their first home at Shewana Shepherds kennel. Yes, it is a lot of work, but well worth it. We feel this is the primary reason over 70% of our sales are based on referrals alone. It is a testament to the work we do in socializing our animals from the very start.
