Being professional breeders, we have pups available throughout the year.

2.  WHAT IF I WANT A PARTICULAR COLOR?

We have a wide color selection.  With a little patience, most buyers are able to find their “dream” pup.

3.  DO YOU EVER HAVE WHITE PUPPIES?

Yes, sometimes we do have white puppies.  However, this is limited.  If none are available at our kennel, we would be happy to refer you to breeders who specialize in breeding quality white dogs.

6.  HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHICH DOGS TO BREED?

We have a long history of experience with all of our breeding males and females and their ancestors.  Most lines have been with us for over 20 years and represent several generations.  This knowledge allows us to select the qualities we want to produce in any particular litter of pups.  Our puppies are the result of a lifetime devoted to the effort of developing and maintaining the most desirable qualities of the German Shepherd Dog.  We accomplish this by choosing the best and most complimentary qualities in both the sire and the dam. We have continuously bred proven animals from world class bloodlines since 1968.

7.  HOW DO YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR DOGS?

Fortunately, we have a wonderful staff of dedicated women who raise and care for the Shewana Shepherds on our 40 acre farm.  They are experienced “dog/GSD” people.  Their experienced handling of the dogs gives our pups an edge.  We know our dogs, and have a proven ability to place our pups in the “right” home.  The success of this "match” is very important to us.

  8.  ARE YOUR PUPPIES SOCIALIZED/TEMPERAMENT TESTED?

Our pups are handled daily from the time they are born.  Following the “survival of the fittest” theory, we generally defer to our dams for the first two weeks.  Just as it would be in Nature, it is the pup’s dam who is the primary caretaker during this period.  Our trust in our dams has proven itself time and again.  Our “nursery” is fully equipped with many learning opportunities, including sounds, toys, surface orientation, and various visitors (both young & old).  Weather permitting, pups are taken outdoors for fresh air, exercise, and sunshine.  When it comes to socializing German Shepherds, we are experts!  We randomly bring in various professional/certified trainers to temperament test our pups.  The results of these tests continue to validate the success of our breeding and socialization program.

9.  HOW CAN I RESERVE A SHEWANA SHEPHERDS PUPPY?

By taking the time to reserve the purchase of one of our pups, you are able to ensure the availability of a certain breeding, color, style or sex (male /female).

Shewana Shepherds uses a "first come, first serve" policy for our Reservation Plan.  As reservations are received, the name of the buyer is placed on our reservation list.  The first reservation is then able to make an appointment to see the particular litter in order to make their selection.  The second reservation will be next, and so on.

Making a reservation:

  1. Contact us for information on the current availability of pups, and for information on expected litters.

  2. Make an appointment to come out to visit us and meet our dogs.  If you cannot, we will be happy to assist in the selection process.

  3. Once a selection is made, we require a deposit to hold your reservation.  Deposit amounts vary.

  4. All deposits are applied to the purchase price of the selected pup.

  5. Deposits are only refundable if the “requested” puppy is not available.

  6. Deposits are applicable to the purchase of another pup.
